BTB’s Hall of Very Very Good
those players who are close but not quite;
those players who were great in our view but
never made a speech in Cooperstown;
those players we feel were pretty damn good and are
firmly entrenched in our mental libraries.
For them, and for us, Let’s open the doors to the new
HALL OF VERY VERY GOOD.
*BTB does not care how nice a guy or how much of a tool a given player is.
All I ask is there be a case for them being good
In some cases it may even enhance their election depending on our own set of morals and standards. Some people are just Social Diseases, but with everything we’ll put them up for vote.
e-mail me at tripletoright@yahoo.com
I’ll run the post with your players entry and link your blog.
Don’t forget a quick Bio on your player the way you want him represented.
Otherwise I will submit a name every Sunday night and voting will stay open
Examples of Candidates for election:
It’s not his fault he played in the shadow of Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell in PITT and Andre Dawson and Gary Carter in Montreal. If you’re too young to remember him, he was one of the sweetest swinging lefties in the game.
Luis Tiant
el Tiante’
19 yrs mostly with Cleveland and Boston
career record 229-172 .571 pct.
led league in ERA twice with ERA under 2.00
lifetime ERA 3.30
400 less hits than innings pitched.
20 game winner 4 times
2416 strikeouts in 3486 innings
between 1972-1979 averaged 16 wins
The bedrock and ACE of the 1975 Red Sox team.
One of the greatest and most eccentric wind-ups by a pitcher EVER!
E-Mail in candidates and
Start the voting!
Let’s see how this goes and if it catches on.
Let’s see what works for us and let it evolve.
All suggestions are welcome.
Remember, e-mail me a name and we’ll vote on our
Fan’s Hall of Very Very Good.
Otherwise like I said, I will submit a name regularly.

Peter ~ Very cool. But you forgot to vote on these two guys!
Yes or No?
I’ll vote ‘yes’ on both, and you’ll definately be hearing from me. My three favorite players of all time will never be in Cooperstown, but always in the MIB HOF.

To All ~ OK…we’ll let this rip for a couple of days. Sunday we’ll launch with everyone’s entry this week and we’ll move from there. Like I said…this will be a work in progress.
Great idea and I’d certainly vote for Tiant. (Don’t really know about Oliver since I’m so AL-centric.) Will give this some thought!

e-mail in. Let’s try to keep it to one entry per person per week.
Jenn ~ sorry about Pete Rose. But this list is designed to piss us off too LOL glad you’re on board. Tell your friends. : )
Great idea. I have submitted my nomination of Dale Murphy, and of course Luis will have my vote!
Hmmm Ok Mike, I’ll narrow it down to one vote.

I gotta say yes to both.. Tiant before my time, but the fact that he went from the Tribe to the BoSox to the Yankees means he was obviously pretty good, Oliver again before my time, (clarify I got into baseball in ’84) although Oliver did wear a Phillies uni in 85 for a couple of dozen games he didn’t do much, but he was pretty good for the Pirates for around 10 seasons…

That’s the idea everybody. We already have a bunch of good entries. I want to laugh like hell when we shoot somebody down. Not the blog author of course…but the player.
I’ve created the link bubbles on the side. I’ve already started drafting the first VOTE post. When I publish the post Sunday I will include it in the link bubble and we can move forward from there.
Remember…we will use this as a home page for the HOVVG.
Sunday we start the official voting.
I love this post~ It’s amazing how this game of baseball accepts all kinds of players. Not just one particular type. I think it’s important to celebrate those who have made an impact but not QUITE good enough to be in the Hall. Heck there are even guys who should be in the hall and aren’t. And the debate goes on and on. I for one appreciate the fact that you are recognizing these people who had great careers. Speaking of that, I have lots of guys I enjoy watching that won’t get into the Hall of Fame but that doesn’t mean their careers don’t mean anything. I think that’s important to throw out there. Any player can make an impact in an organization in different ways.
great idea!
